Today Persians celebrate their New Year. If I understood the explanation it's not due to a persons birth, death, re-birth, resurrection or anything like that. There's also two different years depending on which New Year you want to celebrate. There's the old school version and there's the arabic version. If I understood it correct (again) we leaned towards the old school version (Year 2567 the beginning of the Persian Kingdom).
We were at moms grandparents apartment, with the closest relatives. We had lots of Persian foods (of course), sodas, treats and also presents. Apparantly it's a New Year / Christmas day. Being in Sweden the were also some easter eggs in the loop.

Very nice to see a happy family. I miss the time when my boys were this small. Mr. Mom was the best job I ever had or will have!!!!
There isn't an Arabic Persian new year celebration. It is sometimes called an Eid but it isn't a Muslim celebration, although there are sects that treat it as such. It is an ancient celebration based on the first day of spring. This year though it did happen to fall on the same day as the Prophet Mohammed's birth day which is sacred to all Muslims. It's call Noh-rooz and is descended from Zoroastrian religion. Happy Spring!
